Warnings

EFFECT ON DRIVING AND CONCENTRATION

Taking Soma can make you feel sleepy and affect your concentration and focus. This is more likely to happen if you are over 65 or take other medications that cause drowsiness. Do not drink alcohol while taking this medication. Avoid activities that require you to be alert, like driving or operating machinery, until you know how the medication affects you.

DEPENDENCE AND WITHDRAWAL

Soma is only supposed to be taken short-term, about 2 to 3 weeks. If you're taking Soma every day for longer than that, then suddenly stop taking it, there can be serious problems including seizures, hallucinations, and trouble breathing. Do not stop taking this medication without first talking to your provider. Soma can be habit-forming; take only as prescribed to lower risks of dependence and overdose.

SEIZURES

It's rare, but some people have experienced seizures after taking Soma. Most of these people either took too much this medication (an overdose) or were taking their regular dose of Soma at the same time as alcohol or other habit-forming drugs, such as narcotic pain relievers, benzodiazepines, or sleep aids. Avoid alcohol until you are no longer taking Soma. If you take other habit-forming medications regularly, ask your provider or pharmacist how best to separate them from this medication or if you should take a different muscle relaxer.
